Description: Another problematic power strip, made by Kopp of Germany. As you can see both the plug pins and the earth scrapers are almost black instead of their original brass colour. In fact the corrosion is bad enough that the strip did not work at all when I first tried it!

Description: This Legrand power strip rattled and one end seemed cracked - this is what I got when I pulled slightly with my fingers. I didn't use much force! The cord (1.5 m long) is only 1.0 mm2, which is liminal for the 16 A rating.

Description: This is twisted lamp cord (presumably 0.75 or 1mm2) K&T wiring in Austria, dating back to 1905 and still in daily use. The switch might have been replaced in the 1930s, but that's pretty old too.

Description: Crazy boiler setup inherited from previous owner of the house. Gas fired water heater supplies both hot water and heat via top circulation pump and top left heat exchanger. The way the pumps are installed doesn't make sense at all, has been modified since.

Description: Dublin Hostel #3 The washer is connected via a 30A isolation switch, the dryer seems to be gas and just has a BS1363 plug. The top loading machines are pretty unusual in this part of the world.

Description: Dublin Hostel #3 Apparently this side branch of the cellar (common room) was walled off at some point, only leaving a small access hatch. Do you think this room has any issues? ;) Weird enough, there was a light on in there after they did some work! The air was saturated with moisture in there, it smelled moldy and the walls were close to dripping wet.
